What to bring? Remember this site is at 9,000+ feet in elevation so it can be very cold at the start of the sessions. You will need to dress in many, warm layers. Bring water, snacks, hat, gloves, headlamp, if you have one, and even a down jacket is appropriate in the early part of the season. The trappers will often bring a blanket to wrap up in as well. Better to be prepared than to be cold. We have access to restrooms at the site.

We may have Saturday evening dorm space available for those coming up from Tucson - this will change according to availability. We may also have the use of a friend’s cabin, but again, not always. If we drive up together on Saturday afternoon or on Sunday in the morning, the “Tucson carpool site”, is at the shopping center at the NE corner of Tanque Verde Rd. and Catalina Hwy. in front of Le Buzz Cafe. Elissa will email during the week prior to the session to confirm the accommodations and meet up plans. Please contact Elissa at esquared@qwestoffice.net by email or (520) 869-6385 (C) by phone to sign up or ask any questions about this site.

The “Site meet up location” is either the last parking lot at the very end of the road at the top of Mt. Lemmon, approximately 2 miles past the Ski area and Iron Door Restaurant or at the actual site at the observatory. If you park at the last lot, there is a gate here and you can walk around it to get to the site just about a 1/4 mile up the road from the lot. There is a fee ($5/day or $20/year) for parking at this last lot.
